Andrzej Mleczko was born in 1949 in Tarnobrzeg. He studied architecture
at the Krakow University of Technology. He made his
debut in 1971 in the “Student” weekly. Ever since that time he has
been drawing satirical cartoons, designing posters and sets and also
engaged in art and commercial graphic. He is an author of over 20
thousand cartoons and illustrations which were published in several
dozen journals and magazines. His work collections were published
in 46 books and albums. Artist’s oeuvre was presented during 125
solo exhibitions in Poland and 30 abroad.
In 1983 he opened his own Author’s Gallery in the centre of
Krakow at św. Jana Street. The gallery was meant as a short-term experiment
but because of a great interest of the public it has been
functioning until this day. It stocks the newest works as well as his
archive drawings, posters, postcards and publications. It also sells
various gadgets with artist’s drawings. The guests of the gallery have
an opportunity of meeting the author and getting a dedication with
an autograph .
The gallery holds exhibitions of Andrzej Mleczko’s graphic art and
deals with mail-order sales. In 2000 a branch of the gallery opened
in Warsaw at Marszałkowska Street 140. The interior designed by
Mleczko himself is spacious enough to run social and promotional
events there. The visitors can watch animated films and have a coffee.
